A common cold, though sounds simple is the most irritating problem that affects everybody at some point in time especially in winters. Heaviness in the head, Stuffy or a runny nose, watery eyes, sore throat and sneezing are common symptoms of cold which can create a lot of discomforts. Sometimes we even feel feverish due to persistent cold for a long time.
Many Indian households only rely on natural home remedies to treat cold and cough. These home remedies can give quick relief from cold and also are free from side effects.
Below listed are some best natural home remedies to treat common cold effectively:
Ginger Tulsi Tea:
Add crushed or grated ginger and holy Tulsi leaves while preparing your regular tea. It will soothe your runny nose and also it is a great recipe to treat a cough and colds.
Turmeric and Milk:
Add half a tablespoon of turmeric in a glass of hot or warm milk and drink it daily before going to bed till your cold goes away. Turmeric contains antioxidants and helps in quick recovery from colds and cough. You can also drink it daily to keep yourself warm in winters.
Keep yourself Hydrated:
Drink plenty of liquids especially water as good hydration helps moisturize the lining of the nose and throat, which makes mucus easier to clear. Try to drink more fluids than you usually do. But avoid more caffeinated or alcoholic drinks, as they can cause dehydration.
Boil some green tea leaves in a glass of water for 3-5 minutes or brew a green tea bag in a cup of hot water and drink this green tea, sipping it slowly. The antioxidants present in Green Tea will give a quick relief in a sore throat and runny nose
Honey in Warm W
Add 1 tbsp of honey in a glass of warm water and consume it twice daily or alternatively consume a spoon of pure organic honey and drink a cup of warm water after it. Honey has antiviral and healing properties which can treat a sore throat and cold effectively.
A mixture of Ginger, Peppercorns and Basil in Honey:
Extract 1 tbsp of juice from ginger, add 3-4 crushed peppercorns and basil leaves. Mix this Paste and add a tbsp of honey to it. Consume a spoonful of this mixture
Taking plain Steam from a pot of boiling water may decrease nasal congestion and sinus pressure, at least temporarily. You can do so by filling a pot with boiling water, placing a towel over the head and breathing in the steam or alternatively you can also use steamers also which are easily available in markets.
Sip steamy hot vegetable or chicken soup. It will not treat cold completely but at least give relief from some time from a runny nose.
